Media Relations Working Group

The Media Relations Working Group of the ACI-NA Marketing and Communications Committee is in the final planning stages for the 2010 Media Relations Seminar, to be held Jan. 27-29 in Las Vegas. This one-of-a-kind seminar offers participants information on the latest media trends, tips on effective crisis communication, and exciting innovations in media-related technology. Additionally, seminar attendees will have the opportunity to network with peers and share valuable tips on best practices for media relations.

 

The ACI-NA Media Relations Working Group's goals and objectives are to create and encourage messaging that supports the actions, values and issues of the airport community, coordinate messaging across airports that ensures a consistent voice for airports, develop programs to encourage well-rounded media coverage of airports, and facilitate access and cooperation of public information programs among aviation groups, federal agencies, and corporate entities.

Jack Cavanaugh
The Lee County Port Authority has selected John (Jake) T. Cavanaugh, Jr., as the new chief of airport police, responsible for public safety and security at Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field General Aviation Airport. Cavanaugh will assume command of the Airport Police Department from Richard Severson, who is retiring. Cavanaugh joined the force in 1991 and has promoted to assistant chief in 2004.

Rate of Flight Delays Increases in October

Flights operated by the nation's largest airlines arrived on time at a lower rate this past October than in either October of last year or in September 2009, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report released Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

 

According to information filed with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the 19 carriers reporting on-time performance recorded an overall on-time arrival rate of 77.3 percent in October, a lower rate than both October 2008's 86.0 percent and September 2009's 86.2 percent.
