Air Cargo Committee

The ACI-NA Air Cargo Committee is committed to advancing the industry's understanding and knowledge of air cargo economics and practices by assisting airport operators in the management of existing air cargo resources, maximization of potential air cargo opportunities and the enhancement of air cargo revenues.

The committee has established the Identification of Freight Catchment Areas Working Group that is designed to address the important position of airports as a community's catchment area. This working group has created a plan of action, as well as begun drafting a resource document that outlines the current air cargo industry, the catchment area drivers and influences, data sources and informational tools available for airports, and the next steps for an airport.

Additionally, the committee regularly provides updates and discussion opportunities for members during the committee's monthly Webinar session, which are held the first Thursday of every month. Guest speakers from other industry segments include the Airforwarders Association, the Cargo Airline Association, the Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Canada, the American Trucking Association, government agencies, aircraft manufacturers and equity research companies. The next conference call will be Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. EST.

Stimulus Spotlight: Phoenix Sky Harbor

Passengers flying to and from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will get where they're going faster with the help of an $11.7 million grant provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Taxiway C Project will create nearly 285 local jobs, according to the Phoenix Department of Aviation, and is expected to be completed in February 2010.

In the spring, the Taxiway C Project was originally slated to receive only $10.5 million in stimulus funds. However, after close examination, the federal government increased the amount to $11.7 million. Although the project started in July 2009, the city began an extensive competitive procurement process for a contractor manager at risk for this project in 2005.
