ACI-NA Names Winners of 2012 Communications Contest
SACRAMENTO—Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) announced that 26 airports are winners of its 2012 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest, with Vancouver International Airport taking home the top honor. In a close contest, Vancouver, Canada’s second busiest airport, edged out last year’s winner Miami International Airport, as well as Houston Airport System, and is receiving the top honor, thePeggy G. Hereford Overall Award for Excellence.
Vancouver placed first in two categories and received six overall awards, while Miami and Houston each received five awards.
“ACI-NA congratulates the winners of the 2012 Excellence in Airport Marketing and Communications Contest,” said ACI-NA President Greg Principato. “Each year, this highly competitive contest provides airports a platform to showcase their best marketing and communications efforts that serve their stakeholders, as well as the traveling public, airlines, and other tenants. It has become increasingly important for airports to convey the message that they are important economic engines within their respective communities.”
This year, nearly 50 airports and airport authorities submitted a record 250 entries in the contest, which encompasses categories that recognize work in marketing and public relations, and provides airports the opportunity to be honored for the quality of their work. Awards are distributed in 20 categories ranging from brochures, advertising, marketing and public relations campaigns, newsletters, special events, video and film productions, to social media campaigns and websites. Again this year, communications and marketing professionals from the U.S. and Canada served as judges to review contest entries.
The Peggy G. Hereford award is widely recognized throughout the airport industry as the highest honor an airport can earn in the marketing and communications field. The award recognizes creativity in communicating the airport’s message, effectiveness in connecting with audiences, and the overall scope of the airport’s effort in marketing and public relations. The award’s goal is to spotlight the commitment and dedication of the winning airport’s accomplishments in marketing and communications.
Hereford, a founding member of the ACI-NA Marketing and Communications Committee, sought to capture the energy of aviation and unleash it to the world. She served as the Public Affairs Director at Los Angeles International, and elevated the profession of public relations in the aviation field to new heights.
The Peggy G. Hereford award winner, Vancouver International Airport, placed in the following six categories:
1st Place: Crisis Management
1st Place: Video & Film Productions
2nd Place: Public Relations Campaigns
2nd Place: Special Events
2nd Place: Websites
3rd Place: Social Media Campaigns
Since its inception in 1990, the contest has generated tremendous interest throughout the industry. Award winners were recognized at the 2012 Marketing and Communications Conference and JumpStart Air Development Program in Sacramento.
