ACI-NA Names Winners of
2008 Excellence in Marketing
and Communications Contest

Highest Honor Goes to Edmonton International Airport

Washington, D.C.
(August 8, 2008) Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) announced that 31 airports are winners of its 2008 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest, with Edmonton International Airport receiving the top honor, the Peggy G. Hereford Overall Award for Excellence.

“ACI-NA congratulates the winners of the 2008 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest,” said ACI-NA President Greg Principato. “Each year, airports enter their best in the marketing and communications materials that serve their stakeholders, including the flying public, employees, tenants, and their airline partners.  The award-winning entries help to increase the visibility of airports throughout their communities and North America.”

This year, 62 airports and airport authorities submitted 300 entries in the contest, which encompasses categories that recognize work in marketing and public relations, and provides airports the opportunity to be honored for the quality of their work.  Awards are distributed in 20 categories ranging from brochures, advertising, marketing and public relations campaigns, newsletters, special events, video and film productions, to websites. Over an 8-day period, 39 communications and marketing professionals from the Washington, D.C.-area served as judges to review the entries submitted.

The Peggy G. Hereford award is widely recognized throughout the airport industry as the highest honor an airport can earn in the marketing and communications field.  The award recognizes creativity in illustrating the airport’s message, effectiveness in connecting with audiences, and the overall scope of the airport’s effort in marketing and public relations.  The award’s goal is to spotlight the commitment and dedication of the winning airport’s accomplishments in marketing and communications.

The Peggy G. Hereford award winner, Edmonton International Airport, placed in five categories:  First Place: Annual Reports; First Place: Marketing Campaigns; First Place: Print Advertising- Color; First Place: Websites; and Third Place: Press Kits.

“Winning the Peggy G. Hereford Award Overall Award for Excellence is a great honor for Edmonton,” said Reg Milley, President and CEO, Edmonton International Airport.  “Edmonton is gratified to be recognized for our marketing and communications efforts during the past year. This award, coupled with our remarkable growth over the past four years, demonstrates EIA’s ascending importance in the North American market.”

Airports also winning four awards this year included:  Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and San Diego International Airports.

Since its inception in 1990, the contest has generated tremendous interest throughout the industry.  Award winners will be recognized at ACI World/North America Annual Conference & Exhibition in Boston, Mass., Sept. 24, 2008, during the Chairman’s Honors Luncheon.
