Request for Assistance for ACRP Projects on Sustainability in the Airport Industry

The Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) is an industry-driven, applied research program funded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to develop practical solutions to problems faced by airport operators. The Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) is embarking on two important projects intended to enhance airports' sustainability practices and successes. The projects will provide airport operators with enhanced tools to assist in meeting their sustainability goals.

This project will conduct research on the interest in and feasibility of implementing an airport specific sustainability rating system. A product of this research effort will also be a decision tool to help airport managers identify appropriate sustainability measures for their airports. Research tasks include:

·        • Developing a tool to help airports evaluate and select sustainability best practices,

·         •Developing a prototype rating system to gauge airport sustainability performance, and

·         •Assessing the viability of industry-wide adoption of an airport sustainability rating system and voluntary certification program.

ACRP Project 02-30 – Enhancing the Airport-Industry SAGA Website

This project will update and enhance the Sustainable Aviation Guidance Alliance (SAGA) resource and website which is designed to assist airports looking to undertake a sustainability program or incorporate sustainable practices into their projects and operations. Research tasks include:

·         •Improving and updating the SAGA database of sustainability initiatives,

·         •Streamlining the SAGA database evaluation criteria,

·        • Making the SAGA website easier to use, and

·         •Providing recommendations for maintaining and updating the SAGA website and its library of sustainable practices over time.

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) has been contracted to undertake an extensive stakeholder outreach program in support of these research efforts.  The research team would like to solicit opinions from airports, airport tenants, regulators, and consultants. As a stakeholder, you will be asked to complete an on-line survey, telephone interviews, or join a focus group. By volunteering to participate in this study, you will have an opportunity to provide input from your experiences and influence the future of airport sustainability.

Your input is important.
