Military Airport Program Annual Notice

Today’s Federal Register contains FAA’s annual notice regarding the opportunity, criteria and application procedures to participate in the Military Airport Program (MAP). The MAP allows Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds to be awarded to former or current joint-use military airports for civilian aviation development. There are 15 slots in the program, 8 of which are available for FY2012. However, there is no General Aviation slot available this year. In addition to typically AIP eligible projects, MAP funds can also be used for fuel farms, utility systems, surface automobile parking lots, hangars and air cargo terminals up to 50,000 square feet. MAP airports cannot receive more than $7,000,000 each year to construct or improve terminal facilities. Additionally, they cannot receive more than $7,000,000 each year for other MAP-only eligible work such as fuel farms. Program applications must be received by November 21, 2011.

More information can be found in the Federal Register notice or by contacting FAA’s Kendall Ball (202-267-7436).
