The Great Molasses Flood of 1919

A 2.3 million gallon storage tank of molasses burst on Jan. 15, 1919, in the North End. A flood of molasses, with waves up to 15 feet, flowed through the streets. In the end 21 were killed and 150 were injured as the hot molasses crush, asphyxiated or cooked its victims to death. It took six months to remove the brown sticky stuff from the cobblestone streets.

JFK Library Reception

The closing event tonight will be at the seaside location of The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum overlooking Boston Harbor. Because we will be getting a police escort to this event, all buses will leave the Sheraton at 6 p.m. No transportation will be provided to those who miss the 6 p.m. departure.
