Monday's Agenda

As the aviation industry marks the 30th anniversary of de-regulation, the father of de-regulation, Dr. Alfred E. Kahn, will be the keynote speaker on Monday morning at 10:15. As chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board, Kahn led the movement to deregulate U.S. airlines in 1978. In his remarks, Kahn will give his assessment of the impact of de-regulation on the airlines.

Did You Know?

Uncle Sam was born here

Samuel Wilson was born on Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington in 1766. Don’t know Mr. Wilson? He is better known as Uncle Sam. During the War of 1812, Wilson shipped casks of beef from his Troy, N.Y., meat plant to the U.S. Army. He stamped the cask with “U.S.” At some point, someone suggested the meat was sent from “Uncle Sam” Wilson. While Wilson may have inspired the name, his clean-shaven look was not the model of the tall man with the white goatee.

What to Do in Boston

Guest Tours

Massport has arranged for several whole-and half-day tours throughout the conference. Guests can also register for tours once they arrive in Boston. On-site guest tour registration will be located in the Hall C Foyer, on Level 2 of The Hynes Convention Center.

JFK Library Reception

The closing event will be at the seaside location of The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum overlooking Boston Harbor. Because we will be getting a police escort to this event, all buses will leave the Sheraton at 6 p.m. No transportation will be provided to those who miss the 6 p.m. departure.
