Aircraft by Burgess
Marblehead yacht builder W. Starling Burgess in 1910 flew the first plane in New England when he flew a biplane in Hamilton. Burgess went on to build planes under contract with Wright Brother. The firm he started built more than 100 planes, including many of his own design, and was sold in 1916 to Curtis Airplane and Motor Co. The Burgess Aviation Museum at the Plum Island Aerodome in Newbury is open on weekends.
