ACI-NA President Greg Principato expressed appreciation for the passage of a three-month extension of the FAA’s authorization that will expire on Dec. 31, but said “it is critical” that this be the last short-term extension.
Enactment of a multi-year FAA reauthorization bill will provide an important step forward in obtaining the NextGen air transportation system, enhance passenger rights and airline safety, and provide resources—such as Passenger Facility Charge. Further investment in airport infrastructure would create good paying construction jobs today, while allowing the industry to take a step forward in preparing for NextGen, which begins and ends at the airport, Principato said.

Spot on with your comment. The problem of these 3 and 6 month extensions is it is very inefficient from a finance standpoint. A steady stream of funding coming from the FAA for AIP eligible projects is continually interrupted due to duplication of submissions and paper work. Things right now are moving in a lock step fashion and I understand from some FAA reps I work with that these extensions create more work than is really necessary.
