NASCAR and Airports: The Parallels

The business of NASCAR and the business of airports are united by a single purpose of providing the best customer experience for its stakeholders, Max Siegel of NASCAR told attendees at the ACI-NA Concessions Conference in Indianapolis.

Clearly defined goals of customer service and operational efficiency are two factors that unite NASCAR and airports. NASCAR believes that everyone involved in the business of racing – from the auto manufacturers, to the vendors and suppliers and the individual tracks – is uniformly committed to providing excellence to customers. Airports are on the same track with its stakeholders.

With NASCAR ranking as the number professional sport in brand and fan loyalty, institutional pride is a major factor at NASCAR. The same can be said for airports, Siegel said. “The airport is your first and last impression of a city. For me, my experience with the airport sets the tone of my visit to the city.”

In the end, the parallels of NASCAR and Airports are that both entities:

• Value the customer first
• Continually improve the product through communication with community
• Respect every member of the community
• Respect tradition but evolves with the time and remains innovative
