ACI-NA Announces Principles for FAA Reauthorization

(February 5, 2007) - At its winter meeting on February 4th, ACI-NA Board of Directors approved six principles which will guide the airport industry's lobbying efforts on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization. The current authorizing legislation is due to expire on September 30, 2007.

The ACI-NA reauthorization principles include:

  • Increase the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) Rate Ceiling and Give Airports Flexibility in Rate-Setting
  • Streamline FAA's Management of the PFC Program
  • Increase and Strengthen the Airport Improvement Program (AIP)
  • Improve the Airport and Airways Trust Fund to Foster Financial Stability
  • Treat Airport Bonds as Tax-exempt Public Purpose Bonds
  • Allow Airports More Financial Flexibility

ACI-NA Testifies Before House Subcommittee about Increased Funding Needs

(March 28, 2007) – ACI-NA President Greg Principato and Chairman Rick Piccolo testified before the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation on the future of the Airport Improvement Program and other Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization issues such as Passenger Facility Charges, air traffic modernization and the Small Community Air Service Development Program. According to the testimony, it is becoming increasingly difficult for airports to meet growing aviation needs.

ACI-NA President Testifies in Support of a Risk-Based Approach to Employee Screening
(April 19, 2007)
– ACI-NA President Greg Principato testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection to stress the importance of a multi-layered, risk-based employee screening system to enhance the safety and security of U.S. airports.


ACI-NA Study Shows Airport Improvements Require $87.4B Investment
(May 15, 2007) – ACI-NA announced the results of a comprehensive study that shows that airports must invest $87.4 billion over the next five years on new airport infrastructure, such as new runways, terminals, and gates in order to keep pace with projected passenger and air cargo demand. This finding was included in ACI-NA's "Airport Capital Development Costs for 2007-2011," which was unveiled at a press briefing today.

 

Airport Passenger Traffic in North America Grows 0.8 Percent in 2006
(August 3, 2007)
- More than 1.53 billion passengers traveled through North American airports in 2006, an increase of 0.8 percent, ACI-NA announced. Cargo also increased slightly by 0.6 percent while total operations declined by 2.3 percent.


House of Representatives Passes FAA Reauthorization Act of 2007

(September 20, 2007) – The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2881, the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2007, by a vote of 267 to 151. The bill includes a modest increase in the passenger facility charge (PFC) user fee cap from $4.50 to $7.00. ACI-NA and its allies requested the $2.50 per segment increase in the PFC user fee to help airports build new infrastructure to meet the surging demand for air travel.
