Randall “Randy” H. Walker
Randall H. Walker is the Immediate Past Chairm of ACI-NA.
Walker was appointed Director of Aviation for Clark County in May 1997, and is responsible for the oversight of Las Vegas-McCarran International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the United States. Walker directs the operations and expansion projects for Clark County’s airport system, which includes McCarran International Airport, North Las Vegas Airport, Henderson Executive Airport, Jean Sport Aviation Center, and the airport in Overton.
In 2005, there were 609,000 aircraft operations (takeoffs and landings) that took place at McCarran International Airport bringing nearly 50 percent of all visitors to Las Vegas. More than 14,000 people are employed at McCarran, including airline and concessionaire employees, and contractors. In addition, more than 1,200 Clark County employees are under Walker’s leadership. The airport generates approximately $324 million a year and has a yearly impact on the local economy of approximately $27 billion.
Prior to his appointment as the director of aviation, Walker was assistant county manager for Clark County from 1996 to 1997. As assistant county manager, he oversaw 12 county departments and provided fiscal oversight for District Court, Justice Court, and all of Clark County’s elected officials. In 1995, Walker served as director of the county’s Department of Finance.
In November 1990, Walker accepted the position of deputy director for the county’s Department of Aviation. As deputy director, Walker was directly involved in the implementation of the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) program for McCarran International Airport. McCarran was among the first airports in the nation to have their PFC application approved by the FAA.
After having earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting (Magna Cum Laude) from Brigham Young University in 1977, Walker held varied positions dealing with budget and management. He was a budget analyst in the Clark County Manager’s Office in 1979 and business manager for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1980. Walker served as deputy city manager for Las Vegas for six years prior to rejoining the county at the airport in 1990. During this time, Walker represented the city in the Nevada State Legislature.
Walker was born in Boulder City and grew up in Henderson, where he and his wife Terry raised their six children. He is proud to be a native Nevadan and is an active leader in the community.
