Transportation Rodney Slater and other aviation officials, American Association
of Airport Executives (AAAE) and ACI-NA leaders called for further investment
in airport infrastructure to help reduce flight delays.
ACI-NA Supports New Performance-Based Air Traffic Organization
(December
8, 2000) –ACI-NA’s President,
David Z. Plavin, offered the following statement regarding President's Clinton's executive order
to create a new Air Traffic Organization (ATO) headed by a chief operating
officer and reporting to the Federal Aviation Administrator.
"As we continue to see congestion and capacity problems plaguing our
crowded airspace, President Clinton's executive order builds on the aviation
successes of this past year and makes significant strides to ensure the
management, efficiency and safety of our system is never compromised, but
certainly enhanced. Clearly the creation of this performance-based organization
is an important first step in an effort to ensure the FAA can operate as a more
business-like entity. While more needs to be done, this represents
progress."
